Her Story

About Christine

Christine Dunn focuses on strategic communications in the energy industry, where she leverages communications skills to help achieve business objectives by building awareness of technology commercialization efforts and guiding executive communications. She has just under two years in her current role and previously spent over 10 years as a reporter and editor at Bloomberg News, covering consumer products, retail, investing, and education. Dunn then ran her own business for about a dozen years, working in technology commercialization, before moving to a public affairs agency where she gained experience in public affairs and corporate affairs. She holds a bachelor's degree from Tufts University and a master's from the Fletcher School at Tufts in international relations, political science, and business. Dunn attributes her success to loving people and having grit, with her education and career reflecting a global perspective, collaboration, and teamwork. She values integrity as a two-way street of reliability and draws on advice from her father to view life with a wide-angled lens, stay open-minded, humble, and growth-oriented.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Christine

01What do you attribute your success to?

I really really love people and I have a lot of grit. My education and career reflect a global perspective and collaboration, always seeking to build teamwork because the best solutions come from gathering inputs from different people.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My father always used to say, look at life with a wide-angled lens. Keep an open mind, be open to different experiences, stay humble, have a growth mindset. When in the swirl of things, step back and find that perspective.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Balance is found in the average over time. Don't get hung up on it. There are moments when things feel out of whack and moments when things are an easy ride. Set principles and standards for your life that allow you to sustain the ups and the downs, stay true to that to stay focused on where you want to go.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Communications is a field in flux driven by very rapid technological change causing societal shifts. People are adjusting how, what, and when they communicate. The challenge creates uncertainty but the opportunity is being authentic because people gravitate to what's authentic. Focus on quality not quantity and operate with integrity.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity means you can be leaned on and you can lean on others. It's a privilege to feel that people can depend on you and you can depend on them. It's a two-way street. My approach emphasizes global perspective, collaboration, and teamwork.
