Her Story

About Christine

My career in manufacturing started 25 years ago with a Monster.com posting for a junior buyer position. I went through the entire company, working almost every position - manufacturing, building components, purchasing, and eventually running the shipping and receiving department with 4-5 staff underneath me. After that company was sold, I worked for Pella Windows and Doors for several years as a project manager, running New Hampshire and Vermont with 3 technicians and a team of 4 project coordinators. I've been with Novia for 4 years now as a sales engineer, and I feel like this is where I belong. I manage 37 accounts, and my customers are my priority - they can call me at 7 in the morning or 7 at night, and I'm going to be there for them. I took over a $2 million company that we bought and managed it by myself for 2 years and grew it. This is probably the highest position I've ever held in my career, and I'm at the best place I've ever been in my life.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Christine

01What do you attribute your success to?

Right now, it's definitely my team. I have the best team of co-workers. My manager is just, bar none. Even my CEO - we're all the same age, you know, we all get along really well, and every day it's a positive attitude, everybody's in a good mood. And we just push each other every day. Having that background just makes me want to come to work, it makes me excited to get up in the morning and be here, and it just makes me excited for this job every day. It's such a great team here.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Find something you love and stick with it. That's definitely been kind of my mantra. You know, you spend half your life trying to find the perfect job, and where you're gonna be happy, and we've all been to some places that we hate. I've definitely found a place I love and want to be at, and I'm happy to say that, you know, at my age, I'm finally settled. I'm not going anywhere.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Go to school. Get degrees, get certificates. Get educated. Learn about it. Find what you love. And just go after it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Definitely making sure that I know what I'm talking about when I'm with my customer, and making sure that I'm gonna provide the best product for his application, or their application at the time.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The commitment, honesty, and knowledge. I'm committed to my family, committed to my job, committed to my customers. I'm honest when I talk to my customers, there's no underlying mask or anything. I'm honest with my family, and we're open, and we communicate. I find that those values are both beneficial in the office and at home with my family.
