01What do you attribute your success to?
Having a support system in the workplace is something I believe is important to anyone. It builds trust. I am fortunate to have an incredible manager. She is an amazing mentor that is always willing to share her breadth of knowledge and experience, which is very valuable especially early in my career. I attribute a lot of my success to her as she has been nothing but supportive, empowers the work I put out, and consistently encourages professional and personal growth.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is that it is important to find a place where your voice is heard and belongs, especially as a young woman in the industry. Representation matters. Having a workplace where you are recognized, acknowledged, and seen creates a safe space for diverse perspectives and mutual success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering ANY industry is try to learn something new, even if it feels unfamiliar. Build your confidence in whichever area or type of work you pursue. Stand up for what you believe in and find a place that aligns with your core principles and values. It's imperative to be a part of a community where you feel respected and connected to the work that you do.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Business development was a very new experience and concept at the beginning of my career. Proposals can be very black and white as compared to marketing, which can be gray with more autonomy and creative freedom. Government procurements are strict with its requirements and is heavy on compliance. Adjusting to the environment was definitely a learning curve. Understanding regulations/restrictions, analyzing competitive market trends, engaging in strategic decision making, aligning company capabilities to requirements, and building relationships with partners and customers are only a fraction of the battle. Given there are many moving parts, it is crucial to be agile and adaptive.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me is integrity, responsibility, dependability, resilience, authenticity, respect, and kindness. I stand by and strive to practice these values everyday, both in my work and personal life.
