Her Story

About Christine

I've been in the Salesforce ecosystem for going on 7 years at the end of this month. When I first started in technology, I was leaving a difficult relationship and I was homeless with my two kids. I was in college, taking summer classes, and I was just looking for a job. I happened to run across a woman that was looking for an executive assistant at a Salesforce consulting firm that focused on nonprofits. Based on my experience working with nonprofits, that played a major factor in why I got hired. When I first started, I had no idea what Salesforce was, had no idea I was working at a tech company - I just needed a job, it was work from home. Again, I'm a single mom with two kids, trying to get back on my feet. Once I discovered what the company I was at was a tech company and what Salesforce was, I immediately expressed that I wanted to learn more, I wanted to be more hands-on with the technology. They pretty much taught me everything I know today, or everything I needed to know to continue to grow and progress in this technology industry, and I kind of just took off from there. I received my bachelor's degree in sociology in 2021. What I enjoy most is helping other people, whether that's empowering end users and training individuals on how to use the technology, or building the systems to meet the business requirements so that people can better do their job. But the one thing I love the most is I'm well known as a career coach and mentor. I've helped hundreds of women land roles and pivot into the Salesforce ecosystem and land various roles. I think what I love the most is just empowering people, but mainly helping women, empowering women to pivot into tech. I'm also a co-founder of an organization called Gems in Tech that helps women pivot into tech roles, mainly in the Salesforce ecosystem. In the next 5 years, I want to see myself continuing to empower others. I would like to grow my organization into something more bigger, more structured and organized, so that I can make a bigger impact on women within the community.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say the biggest opportunity is sky's the limit. Literally, the beauty of being in tech is everything is self-taught. You don't necessarily have to have a degree, you just have to have the motivation and the ambition to want to learn. Everything is based off of certifications, so technically you don't have to have a certification, but it's really helpful, and there's a learning platform that's free that will teach you everything you need to know. So if you're willing to put in the work to learn, like, sky's literally the limit. Whatever you want to do, there's various roles, there's various learning opportunities, and there's mainly various opportunities to grow into a financially stable situation and your dream role. The beauty of being in tech is you can focus on various industries, so if you're interested in fashion, well, you can work on the technology side of fashion. If you're interested in real estate, you can work on the technology side of that.
