Her Story
About Christine
I have dedicated 35 years to the field of geology, focusing on both teaching and research. I teach at an undergraduate college, where I educate students who decide to specialize in geology for an undergraduate degree. Throughout my career, I have been deeply involved in the Antarctic Research Program, and I am most proud of furthering the knowledge of the region of Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica. What I love most about my work is learning about the longer scale history of the planet Earth before human existence. My original inspiration for entering this field came from my love of the outdoors, and that passion continues to drive my work today.

Ten minutes with Christine
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say probably curiosity and love of learning. Those have been the key factors to my success throughout the years. My passion for understanding the longer scale history of the planet Earth before human existence has driven me forward, and that curiosity has sustained me through 35 years in this field.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them to believe, just believe in themselves and try to not be discouraged by setbacks, which come fairly frequently. It's important to maintain that belief in yourself even when things don't go as planned, because setbacks are a normal part of the journey in this field.
