Her Story
About Christine
I started in the insurance industry in 1995 after graduating college, initially pursuing underwriting because I'm such a detailed person and I like reporting. My mother worked in claims for an insurance company, so I had familiarity with how insurance companies operated from going to work with her when I was younger. I began at Maryland Casualty Company in agency services and customer service, then moved into underwriting where I stayed for quite a few years. After living in Maryland all my life for about 29 years, I wanted to expand my horizons, so I posted for a senior sales representative position with Zurich American in Colorado and got the job. Throughout my career, I've learned so many different facets of operations in insurance and have held various positions. I worked with LIGA, Louisiana Insurance Guarantee Association, handling all their litigated cases for carriers that went insolvent in Louisiana, and I was close to the top of the list as far as the number of closings through mediation and settlement. Most recently, I worked in litigation for a property insurance company, handling litigated cases where suits were filed, serving as the liaison between the insurance carrier and defense attorneys. I also served as Director of the Davenport Chamber of Commerce in Florida, where my biggest accomplishment was running Winterfest, a community event near Christmas with live performances, local vendor booths, two stages, and a car show. Everything went off without a hitch, and it was such a success. I have no regrets about where I went with insurance because I've learned so many different facets of it.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Follow your heart. Check out whether this is what you want to do. Go to networking events. Get to know people in it, ask them questions, what do they like about it, what do they not like about it. Reveal yourself to them as far as what you like, what you don't like, what you're thinking your direction is, and just really sit with them and talk about it, and hash it out as far as, is this where you want to go? That's what I would tell them.
