Christy Cathey Johnson is a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based small business owner and licensed cosmetologist who specializes in beauty, wellness, and body-contouring services. As the owner of Christys Beauty and Body Boutique, she provides services focused on body contouring, skin tightening, scar revision, cellulite reduction, rapid detoxification, and Brazilian butt lifts. She has also expanded her professional experience through training in body contouring, skin tightening, scar revision, and body modification.
Christy began her professional training at Tulsa Technology Center-Lemley Campus and continued her specialized education with Embodee Milan, completing training in body contouring and related techniques. She has developed expertise in laser lipocavitation, scar revision, skin tightening, and body contouring, while also drawing on her background in cosmetology, hair coloring, communication, and customer service. In addition to running her own business, she works as a dispatcher, demonstrating her adaptability and ability to manage responsibilities across different professional settings.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, hard work, perseverance, and a strong belief in myself. I have always been goal-oriented and self-motivated, choosing to be a fighter rather than a victim. Even while experiencing homelessness, I continued going to school every day and remained determined to complete my education. I refused to let my circumstances define me, and I never allowed failure to become an option.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to never give up, regardless of what is happening in my life. Keep pushing forward because you never know when another opportunity will come. I also learned to value myself, my skills, and my education by never giving my services away for free and recognizing the worth of what I bring to others.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to take advantage of vocational education and training opportunities, including those supported by federal funding. Learning a trade gives you a valuable skill you can carry with you, opens doors to self-employment, and can provide greater independence. Most importantly, don’t stop pushing forward and keep pursuing your goals.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunity in my field is the ability to learn a trade, become self-employed, and build your success through hard work. The challenges include the cost of certifications, obtaining a business license, establishing a brick-and-mortar location that meets inspections, and competing with established businesses while building your reputation from the ground up.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Personally, loyalty is the value I hold most dear. Professionally, I believe honesty and integrity are essential to building trust, maintaining strong relationships, and doing my work with purpose.
