Her Story

About Christy

I have been in the financial industry for 17 years, and I've had a love for banking since I was in my early 20s. I knew from the start that I wanted to climb the chart in my career. I started out as a part-time teller and maneuvered within a year to a lead teller, which I did for quite some time. I transitioned to another financial institution where I became a personal banker because I felt like I had mastered the compliance side of banking and wanted to see what the sales side looked like. When I transitioned to credit unions from the bigger banks, I fell in love with it because you weren't just subject to one role - I could come in and do a multiple of things working for the credit union, and I've been able to show off my skill set there. I started at Energy Capital Credit Union as an Assistant Branch Manager, and within five months, I was promoted to Branch Manager for a new build in our Katy community. Then in October of last year, I transitioned to Area Manager. My love for helping members, providing insight and helping my team to grow, and my love for the community has driven everything I do. As an Area Manager, I oversee two locations and work very closely with both of my assistant branch managers. My day-to-day could look like me helping on the teleline, doing coachings, running reports, looking for business development opportunities outside, partnering with other departments like marketing, and providing feedback to my team. I'm constantly trying to balance both branches, with one needing a little bit more support on certain days than the other.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to adaptability and emotional intelligence. I also contribute my success to family and friends that supported me and pushed me, because sometimes we could be our biggest critics, and so that self-doubt sometimes fit in. I honestly would say not just family and friends - I've had co-workers, too, that believed in me and spoke very highly of me. Having that support system has been crucial to my growth and achievements.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was to remember where you started and remember who you needed throughout your career. As I've transitioned through multiple positions within my career in the financial institution, I've always led my team like that - remembering what it was like to be a teller, remembering what it was like to be a personal banker, and remembering who I needed and what I needed at that moment throughout my career. I think that has molded me to be a really good manager and able to provide leadership and support that you don't always feel that you get throughout your career.
