Her Story

About Christy

Christy Smucker is the Founder and Executive Director of The Mom Community Inc, where she leads a mission-driven organization dedicated to supporting mothers through connection, resources, and community. She founded the organization in 2020 after a decade of work in the field, including six years serving as an Executive Director. Her path includes growing up in a Mennonite community that emphasized service, later moving to Atlanta to serve at a ministry for homeless women and children, and gaining experience as a foster parent, homeschool mom, and owner of a photography business. She holds a high school diploma and has been shaped by mentorship from other women in her community. In her role, she focuses on leading a team, program development, fundraising, and visioning for the organization's growth. Smucker attributes her success to recognizing that collaborative efforts are essential, ensuring team members are supported, and creating spaces for rest and full humanity amid the challenges of nonprofit work. She advises others starting similar paths to stay true to their original vision and remain confident despite external voices.

Ten minutes with Christy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's realizing that I can't do this on my own. We're better together, and for me as a leader it's so important that every person on my team is supported and is able to use their strength as well as have spaces where we get to be fully human. I think recognizing that we are limited beings, and we also need spaces of rest, we also need places where we can go to for support. And having those places that I can turn to for support and care helps to weather all of the difficulties in this kind of work.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell someone that every person's path is a little bit different, and that when you have the courage to start something new, a lot of people will come alongside you and bring more ideas of what you should be doing, and it's important that you stay true to what was on your heart and what you were led to do, not to become distracted by all the other voices, but to be confident in the path that you're walking.
