Her Story

About Chrystal

Felita Chandler is a Training Instructor at Santee Cooper, the state-owned public utility in South Carolina. She has four years of experience in talent development and learning and development, supported by her certification as an instructional designer. Chandler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and later a Masters in Management through the company's tuition reimbursement program. Her professional journey began after high school when she pursued music education with the goal of becoming a band director. When that path did not materialize, she obtained her CDL and worked as an over-the-road truck driver for six years, traveling throughout the continental 48 states as well as Canada and Mexico. She later transitioned to local driving at Santee Cooper before advancing to supervisor of the crew she once drove with. Chandler then served as a continuous improvement specialist applying Lean Six Sigma principles before moving into her current role in human resources and learning and development. She also holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and a Leadership Essentials Certification from eCornell. Outside her primary role, Chandler is building a consulting business aimed at providing training and team-building sessions for nonprofits in the Lowcountry Charleston area, driven by her values of integrity and stewardship.

Ten minutes with Chrystal

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't give up. There will be challenges and roadblocks but it may be delayed but it won't be denied. Network, get a LinkedIn profile with a nice headshot and let folks know what you're looking for. Have confidence that you are the expert in this field.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is key - be where you're supposed to be, doing what you're supposed to be doing and be true to yourself. Stewardship and giving back by paying it forward, helping others who show potential just as others helped me.
