Her Interview
Ten minutes with Cierra
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the resilience and values I learned from my family. Growing up with a single teenage mother and watching my grandfather always find a way to solve problems taught me to be persistent, resourceful, and determined to overcome challenges.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always ask questions. If I don’t know something, I ask and keep learning. I’ve also learned not to fear failure—every setback is an opportunity to grow, and persistence is what ultimately leads to success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don’t let the fact that the industry is male-dominated discourage you. Be confident, ask questions, and lean on the people around you. I've found that most people are more than willing to help and share what they know. Asking questions and seeking guidance is one of the best ways to learn, grow, and succeed, and people usually appreciate seeing that you're eager to learn.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is learning new systems and processes, since every construction company operates differently. It’s important to take the time to understand the details and do things correctly rather than rushing to finish, because accuracy and quality are what lead to long-term success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and transparency are the values that matter most to me. I believe in staying true to my principles and making decisions that align with my values, even when taking an easier path might be more beneficial in the short term.
