Cindy is an Account Manager in the Houston area with Valmet Inc., manufacturer of the Maxum II Gas Chromatograph. With over 20 years’ experience, she works with the oil and gas sector to provide advanced process measurement solutions. Cindy's career began with a willingness to take risks. After graduating from college, she moved across the country to join a leading engineering firm as a procurement expeditor, supporting key projects, including a nuclear power plant outage and procuring equipment to put out Kuwait’s oil fires and rebuild after the Gulf War.

She then moved to Houston and into engineered sales where she found her passion for building client relationships and delivering technical solutions that drive value.

Cindy also volunteers on the board of Analyzer Technology Conference International Inc., a 501(c) organization that works to develop the theory, design, manufacturing, and utilization of analytical instruments and controls. This is done by supporting the analytical community through symposia, training, public meetings, and funding scholarships and equipment for educational institutions.

Cindy is single mom to her young adult twins that are about to start their own college journeys this fall. Balancing a demanding career, volunteer leadership, and family has taught her resilience, time management, and the power of embracing every opportunity for growth.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the example that my parents set for me. My father was an executive in procurement with over 30 years of service for a global engineering company. He instilled in me a strong work ethic, discipline, and an appreciation for the corporate environment. My mother has been my rock throughout my life, supporting me in various ways. She has been the leader of our family with strength, consistency, and dedication to being present.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You don’t have to have all the answers—what matters is knowing how to find them and following through with discipline. Early in my career, I learned that being resourceful is far more valuable than trying to be an expert in everything. It’s about leveraging the right people, asking thoughtful questions, and connecting the dots efficiently.

Also important is timely follow-up. Responsiveness and reliability are about establishing credibility and showing respect for other people’s priorities.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

When I first started my career within the industry of engineered sales, I recognized that it was a relationship-focused and close-knit industry. It was not always easy for young women to break into the industry, and I think it was important for me to get involved. I started attending all different kinds of industry events, from dinners and conferences to more casual gatherings like golf tournaments and shrimp boils.

I think that these events provided me with the opportunity to connect with other professionals in a more relaxed way, and I was able to develop strong and lasting relationships. I would advise young women entering the industry to be sure to get involved and not underestimate the power of showing up. These relationships will help you grow as a professional and will ultimately lead to your future success.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is economic uncertainty, which is causing companies to delay investments, tighten budgets, and be more cautious in moving projects forward. The biggest opportunity is to leverage expertise in analyzers and process optimization to help customers maintain reliability and efficiency, even as they scale back or delay larger capital projects.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and clear communication are important to me. I believe that everyone wants to feel like you are fully engaged, supportive, and committed to helping them succeed. .

I also take pride myself on being a solution-focused person. In both my personal and professional life, I am committed to understanding the need, following through, and achieving results that matter.
