Her Story
About Cindy
I worked for 15 years at Kaiser as a SharePoint developer creating websites for various business partners and departments. Before that I worked at a bank doing web design. My major was something completely different but I fell into web design because I was willing to learn new skills. I was let go from Kaiser on April 20th and am now looking for a similar role.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Cindy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being willing to learn new things and being outspoken as an extrovert in a field full of introverts. I am not afraid to state my opinion and advocate for what I believe in.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I don't have a specific piece of advice I can pinpoint, but I have always been very open to learning anything which is how I ended up in this career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just be willing and open to learn. I ended up where I am because I was willing to learn whatever was given to me, unlike others who stayed in their box.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
It is a male-dominated industry and men tend to focus more on technical coding while undervaluing web design, UI and UX skills that make things easier for users.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, loyalty, strong work ethic, collaboration, and work-home balance are most important to me.
