Her Story
About Cindy
My career in biotech has been a long evolutionary journey. I started out in field sales in pharmaceuticals, and then it led to sales management. From there, I really found opportunity within the drug market space for health insurance plans to make a difference. Now I'm leading the hematology and Nephrology Market Access franchise for Alexion Pharmaceuticals, which is a rare disease arm of AstraZeneca. I work with health insurance plans to make sure they cover rare disease drugs. It wasn't something I planned from the beginning - my destiny kind of came to me without me necessarily dictating or driving it. I believe in approaching the world with an open mindset and bringing your value and worth wherever you land.

Ten minutes with Cindy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think there's a lot that contributes to my success, but ultimately, it's really taking advantage of this one life that we're given and making it the best that we can. I think valuing life is incredibly important, and not taking life for granted. I just think that you have a wonderful opportunity in front of you - why waste it? That's what pushes me and drives me forward.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My best advice for younger women is that while there's value in knowing exactly what you want to do, it's okay not to. You should approach the world as a whole with an open mindset. Sometimes your destiny will kind of come to you without you necessarily dictating or driving it. And while dictating and driving it is always a great approach as well, for those that don't know, it's okay to be unclear or ambiguous. Just know that ultimately you're able to bring your value and worth wherever you land. So sometimes it's not about exactly what you're doing - it's about you doing what you're doing at that moment.
