Her Story

About Claudette

I've been in my field for about 10 years. What led me to starting my private investigator business was basically checking off something that was on my bucket list. I really decided to pursue something I had always wanted to do, and I met somebody that was able to show me the ropes, show me the best practices, and how to be a private investigator - what that entails, who our clients are, and how we serve them. My main area of expertise that I've chosen to focus on is really around backgrounds, specifically around dating and scams. You hear a lot about people transferring their whole savings to people, so I've been focusing my attention on confirming if this person is even real. We do background checks for dating - if we can do search reviews on vacuums and everything else we buy, then we can certainly do the same for the people that we date. I've been focusing on dating, relationships, and scams for families that think their family is being scammed. It's really hard to meet people in person anymore because people don't go out as much, especially since COVID. The online thing is not bad, it's just you've got to confirm at some point - if you're starting to get serious with somebody, you've got to confirm they're real. My typical day involves doing background checks, surveillance - we decide what our caseload looks like, who we're going to spy on for the day, what we find out, and creating reports for our clients, which are attorneys and insurance companies.

Ten minutes with Claudette

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think really my mom and my husband. I think hard work starts from when you're a child and watching my mom work so hard all her life, and she just really instilled what that meant to me. And then, of course, having the incredible support system from my husband.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is when I've been told you're never going to have everything ready - if you're at 60%, just go do it. You'll figure it out from there. That was something that was really tough for me to do, because I wanted everything perfect before I launched something. Everything had to be worded perfect, everything had to be set up perfect, and it held me back sometimes years. Working with very close entrepreneurs and very successful people, they said, you're never gonna have it perfect. Just do it, just go do it. You're gonna have to change everything anyway. Once you start realizing how this is really going to affect people and audiences, you're gonna have to tweak everything anyway, so launch everything at the 60%.
