Her Story

About Claudia

I graduated from school and got directly into sales. I'm a chatty person, and I like talking to people, so it was just kind of a natural fit to go into sales. But I think I was missing the creative aspect that marketing brings to the table. Marketing was kind of an avenue for me to put both my sales experience plus my creative mind to work, and that's how I fell into doing marketing. I've been in my field for probably 10 or 11 years now. Currently, I'm a Digital Marketing Manager, and I've been in this role for 2 years. I work for a small tech startup, but we're owned by a parent company that's a large infrastructure company based in Madrid. We sit in their U.S. operations, and we were spun out of their innovation team. They do infrastructure, and their innovation team wanted to create platforms that connect the user to the piece of infrastructure that our parent company makes and constructs every single day. I was employee number 6 or 7, so I get to have the look and feel of a small tech startup where we're scrappy, we're constantly innovating things, and we move really fast, but we also have the backing and structure of being part of a larger corporation. No day is the same. One day I'll be working with our designer pulling together our brand book, talking about what our voice is, our typography, our ICPs, and the next day I'll be running ad campaigns for a new platform we're bringing to market or working on our social media plan and creative assets. We have a small team, so we all wear a lot of different hats. In the last year, we've done two platforms, and it was a lot of simultaneous work getting both projects over the finish line. Our team works really well together, but they really leaned on marketing for market research and pushing both platforms to market. That's probably my biggest achievement right now, being able to bring those platforms to life and be part of a team that was able to create something quickly, bring it to market, and have it be doing well so far.

Ten minutes with Claudia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's really my competitive spirit. Like I said, I was an athlete in college, so I am very competitive. I like to dig in and try to be the best that I can every single day. If I'm going to do something, I want to do it really well. So I think that's kind of what drives me, and it's what has helped me and pushed me throughout my career.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to not be afraid to have an opinion and to voice your opinion. I think a lot of times women are not as boisterous, they're not as willing to talk about their achievements and what they've done, and give their opinions and really stand up and take up space. I think it's kind of natural for men to really just be very boisterous and talk about what they've done well and advocate for themselves. As a woman, I would say my main thing would be to not be afraid to speak up and speak up for yourself, and talk about your achievements, because people don't really understand, and there's no way of you being able to be promoted or anything like that if you're not willing to kind of talk about what you've done, and the work you've put in, and the things that you've done in order to get your company to where it is.
