About Claudia Sofia Sanchez
Claudia Sanchez is a staff accountant with four years of experience in public accounting. She graduated with a master's degree in 2022 after attending a small university. Her work involves overseeing audits for public companies, including reviewing financial books and processes as part of year-round engagements with tight deadlines. Claudia has been a volunteer with the California CPA Society for over six years, contributing to programming that supports younger professionals from high school students to those with up to five years of experience, and she is also involved with the SAIC CPA Society. She is based in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and draws on her own experiences transitioning into accounting after an internship at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Outside of her professional duties, she enjoys running and has participated in events with the Cancer Association, including 100 miles to beat cancer fundraisers.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Be open-minded and always learning. Be resourceful and ask for help when needed rather than pretending to know everything. Know who to reach out to instead of being the smartest person in the room. Build community and use your network by offering value first.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The workload and burnout in public accounting with 70-80 hour weeks during busy season, lack of work-life balance, and difficulty attracting younger professionals who don't want those demands.
