Her Story

About Cleidy

I've been a senior living counselor for four years now, and I work from home helping families navigate some of the most challenging times in their lives. I talk to a lot of families dealing with memory care, dementia, and Alzheimer's, and I follow up with communities to find the best solutions. Most families have multiple people involved in the decision-making, so I have to talk to all the different kids and try to explain the same situation, and not all of them are on board. With dementia, you never know when things are going to change - one day they're doing good, and then the next one it's a totally different story. Sometimes families don't listen and wait for the last minute, and that's when it becomes harder and challenging. I need to talk to social workers, communities, and doctors to find the best solution for the family. Before this, I spent over 22 years in the airline industry, which is my passion. I'm an economist, and I started very young in accounting right after finishing university. I moved through data analytics, marketing, planning, scheduling, and fares, doing revenue management and analysis to determine which fares would create revenue for the company. I co-founded Bolivia's largest airline, Boliviana de Aviacion, in 2009, where I was in charge of the commercial area - everything related to scheduling, fares, and marketing. I created business plans for multiple airlines including EcoJet, and I loved it - it was like my baby. After working remotely for companies like Goja as a customer service manager, I moved to the United States and found this job. It was a totally different industry, but it sounded very interesting, and I like the idea of helping families, especially because the baby boomers here are so big and it's going to be for a few more years. A recruiter reached out to me, and I accepted it, and I'm still here. What I've learned is that working with people and listening to what their needs are is my main area of expertise. It doesn't matter which industry you're working in - you're always listening to what the market or what people are saying, whether it's families telling me they need help or the market telling me fares need to go up or down.

Ten minutes with Cleidy

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You really have to love what you do. You shouldn't really listen to what society, even family, are telling you, because most of the families and friends are going to tell you what they want for themselves, not what you want. I think if you decide to paint walls, and that makes you happy, you have to be the best one in what you do. Not just be mediocre, you have to be the best one, and anyone can be the best one, but loving what you do - if you don't love it, you're going to hate it. So just learn how to do what you love. Doesn't matter what.
