Her Interview
Ten minutes with Colleen
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute a lot of my success to how I was raised. I grew up in a very hard-working family, with parents who showed me the value of listening as well as showing up. In addition, taking pride in what you do, and following through on your commitments. That work ethic has always stayed with me.
I’d also say that some of the challenges I’ve experienced personally have played a big role in my success. Going through difficult seasons has taught me resilience and has shown me that I’m capable of more than I sometimes give myself credit for. It gave me the mindset that setbacks don’t have to define you-they can actually make you stronger and more determined.
And finally, I’ve really invested in my own personal and professional development. In my past roles, I’ve learned to be open to feedback, keep learning, and put myself outside of my comfort zone. I’ve done it scared. I think my willingness to keep growing, even when something feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar, has been a big part of where I am today.
Ultimately, I think my success comes down to a combination of work ethic, resilience, curiosity, and believing that if I’m willing to put in the work, there’s always a way forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Just really learn how to listen. Sit and listen, it's amazing what you can learn about someone. Never be afraid to ask for help. If you don't know, don't be afraid to ask. No question is a stupid question.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
First off, you don’t have to be 100% qualified to get started. Put one foot in front of the other, and give it a shot. But always be yourself and while you’re learning, don’t shrink yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Curiosity is always the key when in that season. However, it is important to be intentional at the same time. Do your research and show up with the direction to the best of your ability. And finally don’t let difficult seasons take you down. You can always start a new chapter-whether you’re just getting back out into the workforce, trying a new industry, new role, whatever that means. Just give yourself a chance.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
It’s the fact that I want to know everything right now. But it does take time to learn a new industry, and I’m also a female and a male-dominated world. So I am eager to establish my credibility and become an expert in my role.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in my work life are relationships, integrity, growth, and authenticity. I really value building genuine relationships and being someone people can trust and rely on. I also want to continue learning and growing, especially in an industry where there is always more to learn.
I want to work somewhere where people care about what they do, support each other, and have the opportunity to grow. And probably most importantly, I want to feel like I’m adding value and being a solid
resource for others. I like to stay on top of my promises and establish partnerships that can depend on me.
