She began her career in fund investment and management in housing around 1998 or 1999. Her earlier experience includes work in banking, specifically lending, construction lending, and underwriting in both commercial and community development spaces, as well as running a federally qualified health center. In her current role, she focuses on creating affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents of the District of Columbia through strategic use of government subsidies such as low-income housing tax credits, tax-exempt bond financing, and the Housing Production Trust Fund. Green emphasizes the importance of addressing the housing affordability crisis by developing both rental and homeownership options, including permanent supportive housing for individuals who have experienced homelessness. She attributes her professional success to focus and a commitment to keep pushing forward, regardless of setbacks, and advises young women entering the field to do the same while never becoming jaded and believing in ambitious possibilities.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Colleen
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say focus. You have to have focus. And just keep pushing. I get up, and no matter what happened the day before, I still say, I'm gonna get up, and I'm gonna keep moving forward. I may have to pivot, but I keep moving forward. I figure out what is a path forward.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Keep pushing. Do you believe it? It could it can be. Just keep pushing, and never get jaded. You know, you could get bumps and bruises, never get jaded. Believe in the ridiculous. If someone says you can't do it, if you've imagined it, you probably can. Believe in the ridiculous.
