Her Interview

Ten minutes with Colleen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being intentional about planning for the future and making decisions that align with my long-term goals. Watching my mother work hard as a single parent while facing financial challenges taught me the importance of stability, preparation, and creating opportunities for growth. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, where I could build a secure future for my family, be present for my children, and create a different path through thoughtful planning, perseverance, and dedication.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never give up and never be afraid to ask for help. Throughout my career, I’ve learned that even the most experienced professionals have faced challenges and moments of uncertainty, and there is almost always another path forward. I believe in seeking guidance, learning from others, and maintaining confidence in my abilities. By staying persistent, remaining open to support, and believing in myself, I’ve been able to overcome obstacles and continue growing both personally and professionally.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: never give up. While there are still challenges that women face in many professional environments, the opportunities available today continue to grow for those who are willing to persevere and believe in themselves. Stay focused on your goals, remain resilient through setbacks, and trust that with determination and hard work, you can achieve the future you envision.

I also believe strongly in the power of women supporting women. By encouraging one another, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for future generations, we can drive meaningful change and help shape a more inclusive and supportive industry. Together, we can be leaders, advocates, and part of the solution that inspires others to succeed.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I face today is balancing financial responsibilities, including student loans and budget constraints, while building a photography business and pursuing a new career path. I also recognize that changing economic conditions and government policies can create additional obstacles for women, particularly single mothers, as they work to achieve financial stability and professional growth. Despite these challenges, I believe there are tremendous opportunities for those who remain resilient, continue learning, and stay committed to their goals. With perseverance, strategic planning, and a strong support system, it is possible to overcome barriers and create meaningful success.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life are honesty, accountability, and integrity. I believe trust is built when people consistently do the right thing, regardless of whether anyone is watching. In my work, I always keep the patient at the center of every decision and task, because ultimately everything we do is intended to support their safety, well-being, and quality of care. These principles guide my leadership, decision-making, and relationships every day.
