Her Story
About Conny
I inherited the calling to property management - my dad, mother, and siblings are all in the industry, so from very young I watched my dad work and knew this was for me. I got finished with school and through contacts and my parents, I started off as a leasing agent 19 years ago. It's one of those things, you either love it or you hate it, and I absolutely loved it. I worked my way up to corporate through sheer determination and willingness to learn. There was nothing beneath me that I wasn't willing to do - I believe once people can take titles from you, they can take anything from you, but they can't take knowledge away from you. I was always willing to go the extra mile and do tasks that weren't within my job description. I was never someone who would stick to just a rigid job description. I was always willing to take on tasks that would help me expand my knowledge, which ultimately got me promotions very quickly, sometimes within just 60 days of starting with a company. Today, as a regional portfolio manager, I oversee residential communities in Orlando and Sarasota on both coasts of Florida. I have several managers under me and assist them with day-to-day operations and financial reporting to stakeholders and asset managers with various ownership groups. I'm also very involved with Bozzuto, serving as the chair of Florida for Rise by Bozzuto, where I push social impact initiatives throughout the state.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Conny
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'm honestly just, by nature, a perfectionist. Anyone asks me to do something, I just take pride in knowing my name is on it, and I did a great job. I just love knocking it out of the park. It can be something even personal - someone says, hey, can you help me reorganize my house, I'm going to do a heck of a job. I just really take pride on anything that I put my hand to. Whether it's work or helping people in my personal life, I give it my all because my name is attached to it.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My best advice for young people starting out would be one that I took myself. There was nothing beneath me that I wasn't willing to do. I believe once people can take titles from you, they can take anything from you, but they can't take knowledge away from you. I was always willing to go the extra mile and do the tasks that weren't within my job description. I was never someone who would stick to just a rigid job description - this is what I was hired to do. I was always willing to take on tasks that would help me expand my knowledge, which ultimately got me promotions very quickly, sometimes within just 60 days of starting with a company, all because I was just always willing to learn. There was just nothing outside of my job description that I wasn't willing to do, just to gain more knowledge.
