Her Story
About Constance
Constance Williams serves as Nursing Director of the Emergency Department at Southern California Hospital at Culver City, where she provides clinical and operational leadership for a 17-bed emergency department and a team of 73 direct reports. With 15 years of experience in nursing, Williams brings a broad range of clinical and leadership experience to her role, having progressed from bedside and travel nursing positions to charge nurse, supervisor, and management roles overseeing ICU and telemetry units before advancing to director. In her current position, she is responsible for department operations, budgeting, policy development, and supporting consistent standards of care across three hospitals operating under one license.
Williams began her healthcare career as a pharmacy technician, a role she held for 15 years before transitioning into nursing. After earning her Associate Degree in Nursing, she continued her education at Western Governors University, completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in March 2026 and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in August 2026. She is preparing to sit for her Nurse Executive Board certification as she continues to expand her expertise in healthcare leadership. Throughout her career, Williams has taken particular pride in mentoring nurses and strengthening teams, including transforming an underperforming telemetry department from a unit heavily dependent on travel nurses into a stable, fully staffed team.
As a nursing leader and mother of three, Williams is passionate about resilience, professional growth, and helping others recognize their potential. She encourages women entering healthcare management to believe in themselves, trust their process, remain open to constructive feedback, and understand that not every day will be perfect. Her approach is grounded in learning from each experience while refusing to let yesterday determine what is possible today. For Williams, leadership is about moving forward with confidence, supporting the people around her, and creating opportunities for both individuals and teams to succeed.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the nursing profession is to understand that leadership is not always easy, and not everyone will like or agree with you. There will be times when you have to navigate doubt, challenge your own confidence, and step into rooms where others may question your ideas or decisions. Believe in yourself, trust your process, and remain committed to your goals while staying open to listening and receiving constructive feedback. Every day will not be perfect, and setbacks are a natural part of growth, but what matters is how you respond and move forward. I approach each day as a new opportunity, leaving yesterday where it belongs and focusing on what I can accomplish today. Continue learning, trust yourself, and understand that every experience, both positive and challenging, can help shape the leader you are becoming.
