Her Interview

Ten minutes with Cordia

01What do you attribute your success to?

Growing up in a single-parent household, I faced many challenges and did not have access to counselors or mentors who could provide the guidance and support I needed. Those experiences shaped my perspective and inspired my life's work.

Today, I am committed to being the person I needed when I was young. I give my best every day to help children, adolescents, and families overcome obstacles, recognize their strengths, and believe in their potential. Providing guidance, encouragement, and hope to students is more than my profession—it's my purpose. Seeing them grow in confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being is the greatest measure of my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from my girlfriend. During a conversation about our retirement plans, she encouraged me to pursue my professional counseling license. She believed in my abilities, walked me through the licensing paperwork, and motivated me to take the next step in my career.

Her encouragement changed my professional path. Earning my therapy license opened the door to serving more children, adolescents, adults, and families and allowed me to expand my impact as a mental health professional. That experience reminded me how powerful encouragement can be and how one person's belief in you can change the course of your life.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Find the exact area they enjoy working in. There's a lot of areas but find their niche and once they find that they could be the greatest therapist.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities are wide open if willing to work long hours, listen and continue to study. The main challenge is the NCE test but once you get over that everything else is there for you.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Trust, respect, commitment and dedication to whatever I do.
