Her Story

About Corrie

I started acting as a very young child, doing school plays and community theater. I went to school and majored in biology, but I studied acting through a theater minor and also studied education. After graduating, I moved to New York because I figured, why not give acting a try? I had my biology degree and education license to fall back on if I decided it wasn't working, but I never fell back on them. I started acting and ended up falling in love with on-camera acting and voiceover acting, so I don't do much theatrical stage acting anymore. As I gained more experience in the on-camera world, I ended up writing and directing my own film and fell in love with the art of directing and screenwriting as well as acting. I've been creating my own films ever since. I'd always been entrepreneurial, having lots of different side hustles to make ends meet as an actor, as most artists do. I've always had coaching to some degree as part of that, whether it was academic tutoring or otherwise. I realized I had a skill set that a lot of my peers were coming to me for, for advice, feedback, and guidance, and I would just give it away as a friend for free. I thought there was more here and that I could help a lot more people if I leaned into this. My company, Act and Creatives, was born from that discovery. I focus on helping actors and other artists, especially artists in the entertainment industry, create the job they want by reclaiming their own power within a field that can feel very controlled by gatekeepers and where there's a lot outside of your control. My work is focused on helping to empower people to see the control they do have in shaping not only their career, but in shaping the life that their career is part of, to be a life that they love and enjoy.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's been a big shift over the last five years, especially since COVID, from in-person auditions to self-tape auditions, which means actors are recording on their own. There isn't a casting director or director giving them a redirection or telling them that was great and we're going to move on. So actors need to be able to self-direct and self-determine when something is of the quality that they want, which tape they're going to submit, and how to approach the role without getting all of their questions answered. It's a field that can feel very controlled by others, where it can feel like there are a lot of gatekeepers and where there's a lot that's outside of your control. But the opportunity is in helping actors build confidence in themselves and see the control they do have in shaping their career and life.
