Courtney Alexander is a dynamic multimedia journalist, entrepreneur, and CEO committed to amplifying underserved voices through authentic storytelling. A graduate of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Journalism, Courtney discovered her lifelong passion for storytelling after initially studying geology. Over the years, she has cultivated extensive experience in communications, digital media, marketing, and reporting, seamlessly navigating multiple roles in the media industry.

As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Secrets & Legacy Media, Courtney leads a Black-owned media company dedicated to cultural integrity, community impact, and truth-centered journalism. In her role, she oversees editorial and on-air teams, manages operations and finances, and sets strategic direction to ensure the company’s growth and sustainability. Driven by a philosophy that journalism should empower rather than exploit, she champions stories that honor Black brilliance, resilience, and faith, while providing mentorship and paid opportunities to emerging journalists.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Courtney is deeply committed to giving back to her community. She actively engages with youth initiatives such as My Block, My Hood, My City, and maintains involvement with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Passionate about creativity and the outdoors, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, swimming, writing, and the arts. Her dedication to storytelling, mentorship, and community advocacy continues to define her journey as both a media professional and a changemaker.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: never give up. Stay focused on your purpose, trust your instincts, and persist through challenges. I’ve found that obstacles often pave the way for new opportunities, and maintaining determination is key to turning them into successes.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is job stability, as layoffs and inconsistent work can create uncertainty. At the same time, this environment presents opportunities to adapt, develop new skills, and find innovative ways to provide value within the industry.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me, both in my work and personal life, are loyalty and trustworthiness. I believe in building strong, reliable relationships and maintaining integrity in every interaction.
