About Courtney

Courtney Amaro serves as a lead admin team member on the administration team at a private school and non-profit in Duval County, Jacksonville, Florida. With 16 years of experience in education, she specializes in curriculum instruction and is a TBRI practitioner, focusing on trust-based relational intervention to help students develop self-awareness and manage social and emotional needs. Amaro also works extensively in creating and fine-tuning programs to support student exposure and educational opportunities. Her path into education began during her senior year at the University of Florida, where she earned an English degree, after participating in a mentorship program that sparked her passion for using literature and writing in schools. She later obtained a master's degree in Ed Leadership from the University of Central Florida and is completing her doctorate in Applied Learning Sciences from the University of Miami, with graduation set for December. Amaro draws from a family background in education, as her mother was a college professor, and she values mentorship while supporting teachers through classroom observations, behavioral needs, and program implementation.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and don't take anything personal. Stay current with education trends by taking classes and reading articles. Get with a mentor or peer teacher to bounce ideas. Don't seek perfection; take each day for what it is. Also recommend The Purpose Driven Life.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Education is hard; teachers act as supplemental parents. Salary does not match demands, nationwide issue. Job doesn't stop at end of day; parents text at night. Many teachers need second jobs to meet economic needs in Florida. Requires strong boundaries but tough for empathetic, purpose-driven educators.
