About Courtney
Courtney Bermudez has demonstrated leadership in community advocacy through multiple initiatives. She organized a candlelight vigil in Ybor City opposing a hate preacher, starting with three people and expanding to consistent crowds of 300-500 with involvement from the Trevor Project and successful opposition to the Westboro Baptist Church, ultimately convincing Marco Rubio's office to relocate to Tallahassee. Bermudez contributed to passing a conversion therapy ban in Tampa and spoke at city council in support of Allendale United Methodist Church's vegetable garden project. As a candidate for City Council, she focuses on advocating for the community and influencing positive change.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Courtney
01What do you attribute your success to?
My mom. I'm the product of immigrants. My grandmother moved here from Puerto Rico. Remembering who I come from and the women in my lineage who didn't follow the rules, made good trouble, and refused to take no for an answer. My mom would never let me give up.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never be the smartest person in the room and learn. How not to take no for an answer. Imposter syndrome is real but you can't let it stop you.
