Her Interview

Ten minutes with Courtney

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to resilience, determination and a willingness to bet on myself. I’ve never been someone who sees a closed door and immediately assumes that is the end of the road. I tend to ask what else is possible, find another way forward and put in the work to get there. I’ve also learned not to wait for someone else to give me permission to grow. I pursue opportunities, stay curious and continue challenging myself, even when the next step feels uncomfortable. That combination of persistence, adaptability and self-belief has shaped much of my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is that no one has everything figured out. Even the people you admire or assume have all the answers are learning, adapting and making decisions with the information they have. That perspective taught me to stop waiting until I felt completely ready and trust myself enough to step into new opportunities. You do not need to know everything to belong in the room. You need to be willing to learn, ask good questions and keep moving forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering communications and marketing is to put yourself in the room, even when you do not feel completely ready. Take the opportunity, ask the question and share your perspective. Confidence is often built by doing the thing that feels uncomfortable, not by waiting until the fear goes away. Build genuine relationships, stay curious and learn from the people around you, but do not underestimate the value of your own instincts and ideas. Advocate for yourself and your work, and remember that you do not need to have everything figured out before taking the next step.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Artificial intelligence is creating tremendous opportunity in communications and marketing, from improving efficiency to helping us think, create and work in new ways. At the same time, as content becomes easier and faster to produce, I believe human judgment becomes even more valuable. Knowing what to say, what not to say, when to challenge an idea and how a message will resonate with real people requires empathy, context and critical thinking. The opportunity for our profession is not to compete with AI, but to use it thoughtfully while strengthening the distinctly human skills that build trust and make communication meaningful.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, empathy and respect are at the core of how I try to show up, both professionally and personally. I believe in being honest, treating people well and doing the right thing even when it is not the easiest choice. To me, success means very little if it comes at the expense of how you treat others along the way. I want people to know they can trust my word, rely on my judgment and expect the same person from me regardless of the room I am in. Those principles shape how I work, how I lead and, most importantly, how I build relationships with the people in my life.
