Her Story
About Courtney
Courtney Curry is a Senior Customer Success Account Manager at Microsoft, with 18 years of experience in the IT industry. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, she serves as a strategic business advisor to Microsoft's Unified Support customers across industries such as pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, technology, retail, and insurance, guiding them through service delivery planning, conducting service reviews, and coordinating engagements between customers and internal Microsoft teams. She draws on deep expertise in Azure, security, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and artificial intelligence to help clients streamline their IT operations and reach their business goals.
Curry's path to her current role began over 18 years ago, when a recruiter contacted her while she was working late nights at a medical market research firm; she joined Microsoft as a contractor and steadily advanced through positions including Duty Manager, Developer Business DM Lead, and Technical Resource Coordinator before stepping into account management. Although she does not hold a formal IT degree, she credits a college course on listening dynamics in business for shaping her ability to understand and mirror customer needs, and she attributes much of her growth to her competitive drive and the mentorship of strong managers and colleagues along the way. She holds a Bachelor of General Studies degree in Social Sciences from Indiana University Bloomington, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Curry is deeply committed to service and generosity. After learning that she shared the same blood type as a friend of more than 20 years, she chose to become a living kidney donor, and she also volunteers with the Allegro Foundation, supporting children with disabilities. Looking ahead, she hopes to advance to a principal account manager position within the next five years, taking on greater responsibility while mentoring others, and she encourages women entering the IT field to network purposefully, be strategic in their outreach, and seek out conversations with professionals already working in the roles they aspire to hold.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Courtney
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say I am a driven, competitive person who is always looking to challenge myself. Beyond meeting the metrics my company sets, I push myself to keep improving. A college course on listening dynamics in business taught me how to reflect back what a customer is saying so I can be sure I truly understand their needs. I have also been fortunate to work alongside excellent managers and teammates who have supported me throughout my career.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to women entering this industry is to network relentlessly, as the relationships I have built are a major reason for my success. Be strategic when sending out resumes and reaching out on LinkedIn rather than mass-applying to hundreds of positions. Take a targeted approach, speak directly with people already in the roles you want, and don't hesitate to ask someone for just fifteen minutes of their time.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Collaboration, trust-building, and delivering value to my customers are central to how I approach my work, and I try to bring professionalism and attention to detail to everything I do.
