Her Interview

Ten minutes with Courtney

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've been really open to just continuing to evolve. I have continuing consultation, I'm certified, I'm working on becoming a full consultant so I can help other therapists too. I read, I educate myself, I just want to be always evolving. What I do work. But I still want to educate myself. I think that kind of comes through when you're sitting across from somebody.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If you build it, they will come. A lot of my education as a therapist really did not prepare me to be in business, so consultation from other therapists who are business owners was helpful.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It's just so important to have other people in similar positions, whether it's mentorship, whether it's friends, whether it's a consultation group. It really would make a difference for people to have that support versus being in business, and being in this kind of business can be a bit isolating. The consultation groups just to normalize some of the struggles that businesses have, and you can also kind of put your heads together.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's still a lot of stigma for people coming to therapy. A lot of people don't understand that you don't have to have a serious significant mental health issue to be in therapy. Therapy can actually help people avoid issues. I'm also seeing some stuff with AI, and unfortunately AI is not going to give you the response that a real therapist would.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Values of being authentic. I think people can really tell your level of authenticity. My value is family first, because I think if I've helped other people and not my own family I've not really done what I was kind of sent here on Earth to do. Those two things, authenticity and family, really guide me.
