Courtney Pocock: For me, being an influential woman is to go after your dreams, to not be afraid to take chances, to make mistakes, to just go for. Your goals in life and to put in the work to get there, I remember when I was in FFA years ago, in school, we always were told that what matters is what you do, it's not what you say, it's what what you actually put the work and put the effort in what you learn and how somebody actually behaves that makes the difference, cuz anyone can say anything, it's how you actually respond in the moment that defines your character and your integrity. So to me. No matter how difficult it is and how hard it is sometimes to go after our dreams, it is that work that defines us and that teaches us and eventually makes us into the influential women we become.
What's one piece of advice you would give to younger women chasing their dreams?
Courtney Pocock: My advice for younger women would be to just go for it. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Don't be afraid of putting in the effort in now. Just about everything worthwhile is going to come from hard work. And even if it doesn't always seem. Like what you're doing is going to get you to your end goal. A lot of times those skills, the side paths are what really make the difference, like there's this famous story of Steve Jobs, where he took a calligragraphy class when he was in college, and what are you gonna do with calligraphy, how many professional calligraphists are there, and then he ended up making a work program that relied on calligraph calligraphy, and today we still have fonts that were inspired by this early class that. He had no clue where it would end up taking him, and when you're young, when you're, 1820, 25, and before you have that mortgage, the car, the kids, and all these things going on before you're set in your career path, that's when you have the most opportunity just to dig in and put in the work and go out. After your dreams and don't be afraid to take risks, and when there's problems that come up, they always say, like with there's no doors, make a window, find a window, there's always alternative ways to get to your goal, and now it's even easier than it was, 1020, 50 years ago, because, of course, we have the Internet, so you can find alternative brands, you can find out how to set up a business, you can find out, All the skills you need to succeed in your career just by a push of a button, the real question is if you're willing to put in the work, if you have the time to put in the work, and if you're willing to make that risk in yourself, so that you can achieve your dreams.
Her Story
About Courtney
I've been working in SEO copywriting for 15 years, and I run my own S corporation. I work with a diverse range of clients, from businesses making a few hundred thousand dollars a year to companies generating over $100 million. My services include updating website pages with content that ranks well in search engines, writing blogs, and developing comprehensive SEO strategies. Depending on the client's size, I sometimes work independently with smaller companies, and other times I'm part of a team of up to 20 people working together to design and implement SEO strategies that really work.
Throughout my career, I've navigated constant industry changes, from Google Panda and Penguin updates to the recent emergence of AI tools. What I've learned is that quality content always ends up doing well. People get wrapped up with worrying about a new change, but if the content is relevant and useful for the reader, it will succeed.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to curiosity. That's really the drive for me. I just like to know how things work. I like to do the research and understand just how the entire world fits together, and I think that's one of the most appealing things about any type of writing. There's always going to be some research involved,, so you're always going to learn something new.
I don't even care what the topic is as long as I'm finding out something new. The other day, I was writing an article about high-efficiency furnaces. I learned the coolest fact about how they actually function and what makes them high efficiency. They're not actually more efficient in their production; they're more efficient in how they capture it at the end. It was incredible to me and exciting to get to learn something new and mentally break down this complex system.
I also have to say my husband's been really supportive. We've been partners in more ways than just in our relationship. He worked for me helping with website setup and overflow work, and I worked for him as an assistant manager when he was a property manager. We've just kind of gone back and forth. If I need to push in my career and do more work, he steps up at home and does everything at home or serves as the back-up me for work. And then when he was studying to get his teaching certificate, I stepped up and did extra. Having that type of support network in place has been really just phenomenally helpful. Whether I'm hungry because I forgot to eat during a busy day or need a pair of eyes to help me with a technical glitch, I know I ca rely on him to be right there. It's hard to overstate just how important it is to have someone at my side who is truly a partner in my personal and professional lives.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
If I were to give advice to young women starting out, I would say just jump in head first and just go for it. As you get older, you have kids, you have a house, and you have a mortgage to worry about. Taking those types of risks, carries a much bigger cost than when you're graduating college and your idea of a splurge is making Top Ramen. If you can do those types of risks early on, it's a lot easier. If I were to go back and start my business from scratch now, that type of intensive workload would be much harder. Rake those risks when you're young, and you have the flexibility to do it.
