Her Story

About Cristina

I've been DJing since I was young, always running it as a business because my father is an entrepreneur and gave me that direction in the business world. My original public passion was health and fitness - I went to Florida International University for sports and fitness under the education department, and I became a teacher, working with elementary kindergarten for a few years and finishing with physical education teaching. In 2023, the year I really connected with the music community in Miami where I was born and raised, I founded Selva Beats MIA. It represents Miami energy through beats and creates a cultural platform celebrating the inclusivity that our city has with cultures, all the arts, and community activities. I produce music in the electronic house music community, which I started about a year after founding my company. Selva Beats is more than events - it's a community platform where artists have a place to grow, where we stick together, get to know each other, and provide resources based on my experience and connections. We just made 3 years on April 2nd, and it's thrown me into more of a leadership direction, which aligns with how I've always been since childhood - I've always been creating something. In high school, I created a club called Students for Fitness for health and wellness. Now I'm in the entertainment industry but also really in the life development side, bringing in my resources from education and health and wellness to give people the tools to be the best version so they can be creative. I'm now the president of FIMLA, the International Foundation of Latin Music and the Arts, which my father founded in 2011. I reactivated it and was appointed president this year. We just did an inaugural cultural launch showcase during Miami Music Week. Selva Beats is a direct partner of FIMLA - Selva Beats relates to the Miami global community while FIMLA is international in general to the arts. I'm bridging Miami's culture to influence it internationally for FIMLA, bringing in the new modern electronic genre to my dad's musician background.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice I would give is really understand the why as to why you enjoy what you're doing, and what you choose to do, and why it's needed to stay stable. So, like, stability, speaking on stability, working on everything that can help each other to grow, and last for a long time.
