About Cristy
Cristy Abbott is a permaculture design, sustainability education, and ecological design professional with experience leading permaculture courses, organizing statewide gatherings, designing regenerative garden systems, and educating communities about natural systems. She has been active in the field since 2009, when she completed a 72-hour Permaculture Design Course certification in December of that year. Cristy currently serves as a Planning Committee Member with the Florida Permaculture Convergence, a role she has held for about a decade, and leads projects through The Permaculture Guild. Her background includes creating community gardens and school gardens, leading initiatives in ecovillages and intentional communities in the St. Petersburg area, and co-housing arrangements. She teaches permaculture basics through weekly global Zoom sessions and contributes to the Young Entrepreneur Alliance by delivering sessions on the pillars of thriving entrepreneurship. Cristy emphasizes the ethics of permaculture, including soil building, seed saving, care for people and the planet, and fair share, while drawing on her family farming heritage to advocate for a return to family farming practices.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Start with the young children and their parents and the youth the 20 to 30-somethings before they have kids. Let's get back to farming. Family farming. Most of my ancestors were farmers.
