About Crystal
Crystal Barbee, MBA is the founder of CG Financial Consulting, LLC, where she provides fractional CFO services and strategic financial consulting primarily to automotive dealerships and businesses seeking experienced executive-level financial guidance. With more than 16 years of experience in automotive finance and accounting, Crystal specializes in helping organizations improve financial performance, strengthen accounting operations, and make informed, data-driven decisions. Her expertise includes financial strategy, dealership accounting, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, internal controls, process improvement, and building efficient finance teams that support sustainable growth.
Crystal began her career in the automotive industry as a receptionist at a Cadillac dealership in Arkansas and worked her way through every area of the accounting department, gaining valuable hands-on experience as a cashier, title clerk, bookkeeper, and accounting professional. After encountering career advancement challenges due to not having a degree, Crystal made the decision to return to school while continuing to work and care for her son. Through dedication and perseverance, she earned her associate degree, bachelor’s degree, and Master of Business Administration in Accounting from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in four years. Her commitment to professional growth led her to executive leadership positions, including Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Accounting, where she oversaw financial operations, strategic planning, and organizational improvement initiatives.
Crystal credits her success to resilience, determination, and her desire to create a better future for her family. Her personal experiences shaped her leadership philosophy, which is centered on honesty, kindness, and integrity. She believes that strong leaders can achieve results while still leading with compassion, respect, and empathy. Crystal encourages young women entering the finance industry to start in entry-level roles, learn the business from the ground up, and gain real-world experience while pursuing their education. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her family. 01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is rooted in resilience, determination, and the commitment to creating a better future for my family. Growing up, I faced significant challenges, including the loss of stability at a young age and difficult circumstances that shaped my perspective on perseverance and strength. Those experiences motivated me to build a life defined by compassion, security, and opportunity. I have been driven by the desire to provide my child with the love, support, and foundation that every child deserves. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to growth, I have transformed my past experiences into a source of strength and continue to strive for a future built on purpose and possibility.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to be willing to start at an entry-level position and take the time to truly learn the business from the ground up. Gaining hands-on experience while pursuing your education can provide valuable insight, build confidence, and help you develop the practical skills needed to succeed. Every role is an opportunity to learn, grow, and create a strong foundation for your career. By staying curious, embracing new challenges, and combining education with real-world experience, you can position yourself for long-term success and advancement.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunities in my field right now are the tremendous potential for growth and the wide range of career paths available. There are opportunities to develop at multiple levels, build new skills, and advance within the industry. With the right company and a supportive work environment, this field also offers the ability to achieve a strong work-life balance while continuing to grow professionally. I believe those who are willing to learn, stay adaptable, and take advantage of available opportunities can build rewarding and successful careers.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, kindness, and integrity. I believe strong leadership is built on trust, respect, and treating people with compassion. A leader can set high expectations, guide a team, and achieve meaningful results while still leading with kindness and empathy. I strive to create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work. By staying true to my values and leading with authenticity, I believe I can make a positive impact on those around me.
