Her Story

About Crystal

Crystal Fields is a nurse leader in the managed care industry who is passionate about improving the lives of older adults through compassionate, patient-centered care. She works closely with physicians, social workers, and community partners throughout the Louisville area to connect patients with the resources they need to achieve better health outcomes and remain safely at home whenever possible.

For Crystal, leadership is about finding solutions that make a meaningful difference. Whether it's coordinating complex care or something as simple as securing a fan for a patient with chronic breathing difficulties—an intervention that helped prevent additional hospital visits—she believes every act of service has the power to change a life.

Crystal credits much of her professional journey to Dr. Roy Kiriokas, the cardiologist who encouraged her to enter managed care, even though it meant taking a pay cut. His belief in her potential inspired a career dedicated to serving others and shaped the leader she is today.

She also attributes her success to her late grandmother, Margaret Bruning, whose unwavering love, encouragement, and belief in her provided the confidence to pursue every opportunity. Crystal hopes to honor her grandmother's legacy by leading with compassion, integrity, and purpose every day.

A strong advocate for healthy aging, Crystal encourages individuals to embrace the aging process while taking ownership of their health and well-being. She believes that education, accountability, and prevention empower people to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Her advice to young women entering healthcare is simple: embrace change, remain resilient, seek mentors who believe in you, and enjoy the journey. Success is built through perseverance, continuous learning, and a genuine commitment to serving others.

Ten minutes with Crystal

01What do you attribute your success to?

Just having leaders and mentors that believe in me, and then in turn, me being able to pick up that and inspire others, as I've been inspired.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Hang on, because everything changes. The only constant are the changes, but try to enjoy the journey along the way.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Love and accountability. You have to do all things with love, but also accountability, especially with being a manager. You have to keep people accountable, but you have to love on them too.
