About Crystal
Crystal Harbour is a dedicated public safety professional with over 15 years of experience in leadership, emergency medical services (EMS), and fire suppression. As Lieutenant of Operations at the Henry County Department of Public Safety, she oversees day-to-day operations, manages scheduling and resource allocation, and ensures the readiness and maintenance of firefighting and EMS equipment. Her expertise extends to training, peer review, SOP development, and committee leadership, earning her recognition such as the Leonard Coon ALS Award for excellence in leadership, communication, and patient care. Crystal holds a Master of Science in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management with a concentration in Emergency Management and Disaster Resilience from Eastern Kentucky University, and she has completed additional certifications including ICS, DICO, PIO, Mayday/Firefighter Down, and SFI Short Track Incident Response. She has also graduated from the Virginia Fire Officers Academy, further refining her leadership and operational skills. Her commitment to continuous professional development demonstrates her dedication to staying at the forefront of public safety and emergency management practices. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Crystal actively contributes to her community and the fire service profession. She serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Martinsville-Henry County Professional Fire and EMS Association, volunteers with local fire and rescue departments, and advocates for mentorship and development opportunities for women in public safety. Crystal attributes her success to hard work, strong family support, and a commitment to lifelong learning, believing that preparation, resilience, and leadership are key to making a meaningful impact in her field.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my incredibly supportive family. They assist me with childcare and provide guidance with my classes, which allows me to focus on my goals and pursue my ambitions with confidence. Their support has been instrumental in helping me balance my responsibilities and achieve success.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to never stop learning. Continuously expanding your knowledge and skills will empower you to grow, adapt, and seize opportunities throughout your career.
