Her Story

About Crystal M.

Crystal M. James is the Founder and CEO of two businesses and brings more than 25 years of professional experience to her executive leadership, applying her entrepreneurial vision across multiple sectors. Seven years ago, she established a business consulting company that offers event planning and management services alongside government contracting. She also leads an e-commerce business creating meaningful greeting cards and gifts for those affected by breast cancer, turning her personal journey into a source of connection and encouragement for others. Driven by her children and a desire to expand opportunities for women, Crystal built a woman-led business grounded in collaboration and inclusive leadership. Having witnessed the barriers women face in male-dominate workplaces, she values environments where people are respected, their contributions are recognized, and advancement is accessible. Guided by transparency, community, compassion and a commitment to giving back, Crystal brings purpose to both her business, she continues to champion small businesses and women entrepreneurs.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Crystal M.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success first and foremost to my children, who have been my backbone since the birth of my first child. I am also driven by a commitment to give back and to place other women in positions of power. Every company I worked for was male-dominated, and women had to fight for promotions. My goal was to open a woman-led business where we collaborate with men, because women think differently and bring great ideas to the table.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I have received; sometimes you have to take ten steps back in order to take twenty steps forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do not give up, even on the days when you feel like giving up. Your belief in yourself will be the catalyst for your success.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge, particularly for small businesses and women entrepreneurs, is raising capital, whether through banks, credit cards, or seed funding.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Transparency, recognition and accessibility are values that guide me in my work life. Love, family and purpose are values that guide me in my personal life.
