Her Story

About Crystal

Crystal Romine brings 15 years of experience to her work in home health. Inspired by her grandmother who worked in a nursing home and her disabled grandfather, she began helping with elderly patients as a child from ages 5 to 13. Finding that hospital and nursing home settings did not suit her due to a weak stomach and sensitivity to certain conditions, she pursued home health where she could provide individualized care such as bathing, dressing, cooking, and cleaning while respecting each client's unique needs and dignity in their own home. She also works at Chick-fil-A in the evenings and was recently promoted to team lead there. Romine attributes her success to God and holds integrity, honesty, and respect as core values in both her professional and personal life. Despite personal challenges including grief and trauma, she remains committed to serving her clients humbly and prioritizes their well-being.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Crystal

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to God. Because every time I try to do it on myself, I don't get it right.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to take one day at a time. Recently I've been working two jobs, home health during the day and Chick-fil-A at night, and I was promoted to team lead at Chick-fil-A.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be humble and be open to the fact that this is individualized by each person. You cannot treat everyone the same across the board. Learn that person individually, respect them in their home, and handle each one uniquely that fits them. Remember that these elderly paved the way for us and give them the peace and dignity of staying in their home.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the technology like the smart app for clocking in and out that works when it wants to. Also maintaining my own personal character, grief, trauma, and pain without letting it cross over to my professional life.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, honesty, and respect are most important. It's the simplest thing you can give somebody. If you maintain your integrity, your character stays intact no matter the situation or how bad people treat you. Stay honest and maintain respect for yourself and them.
