Her Story
About Crystal
I have been working in behavioral health and coaching for about 6-7 years now. I started out in 2019 in an inpatient substance use hospital. I gained more experience by moving on to mental health and substance use counseling a few years later. I worked in an intensive outpatient hospital setting where I was facilitating group therapy, individual therapy, treatment planning, biopsychosocials, and discharge planning, utilization review, and billing. When we moved to Florida about 3 years ago, I started doing telehealth. I decided to explore other opportunities. I was so honored to accept a position working with the CEO of Weems Memorial Hospital. I see people outside of my current job for life coaching, using my positive psychology degree with a focus in life coaching. I found that the positive approach was more helpful to people, and a lot of people tell me it has worked for them so well. I have a unique coaching style. I serve Franklin County, and working for a rural hospital means so much to me, being able to serve my area.

Ten minutes with Crystal
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my greatest accomplishment is being able to utilize my skills throughout my career and college journey to help people out in the community. I find so much joy out of helping other people. What originally drew me into this field was watching loved ones and friends around me struggling with mental health or substance use, or just in daily life and career. I truly believe that's what made me grow into the passion to help others. I took personal experiences and career experiences that led me into my career path. I'm so passionate about what I do, and I'm just trying to help other people. Our county has a need, and that's another reason I wanted to serve my area in Franklin County. Working for a rural hospital means so much to me, and being able to serve this area.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say the biggest challenge for young women entering this field would be having a team that works together when you are working for another company, versus working for yourself independently. Find others that are passionate about working in the field. That’s where you will find your way.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The one that sticks out to me the most is the trust portion. Being able to trust and validate means more to me than anything, in everything I do, everyone I see. Trust is a very strong word when you have people that trust you. I feel like you're placed in certain positions in your life for a reason. You just go with it. There's always something to be learned in any field you do work, and I feel like I have a mixed variety of experience and skills that will carry with me to help others.
