Her Story

About Crystal

Crystal Wigfall serves as Founder and CEO of Dear HR Rep, a Houston-based consulting firm she established in 2018. With nearly two decades of experience in human resources, she transitioned from traditional HR consulting, which involved managing employee conflicts, investigations, onboarding, and policy development, to a specialized approach that emphasizes the decision history behind organizational outcomes. Wigfall earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Indiana University and an MBA from Indiana Westland. She also obtained a Human Resources Professional Certification from Colorado Accounting and Business School of the Rockies and has become an HRCI Recertification Provider, developing courses and frameworks to support consistent, quality decision-making in HR. She attributes her professional success to the values instilled by her parents, including authenticity, excellence, integrity, consistency, and compassion, and she advises professionals to embrace their God-given talents rather than trying to be something they are not.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Crystal

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my parents. I have 4 brothers and a sister. My parents were married for 35 years before my mother passed away, and it's just different things that they instilled in me as a young lady, has really sustained me as a woman. Doing whatever it is you want to do, whether you fail or succeed, at least you tried. Being your authentic self, having that compassion for others. And then the biblical foundation that they gave us.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is, don't try to be something you're not. We all have God-given talents. You do not try to go out and be something that you're not. There's already something within you that God has given you to be successful, and whether you realize that or not, it's already in you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do something because you're a woman, because you had a baby, because you need to take time off... You can do all things. It's not about balance, it's about rhythm. Find your rhythm of being a good wife, being a good mother, being a good entrepreneur... find your partner who's in tune to your rhythm.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is getting people to realize every outcome has a decision history. People start managing the outcome but it's about what decision started and led up to this outcome. It normally starts at the hiring process.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, excellence, integrity, consistency, and compassion. You have to do what's right, no matter who's in the room. Where's the compassion element? Where's the empathy? Where's the humanity in human resources?
