Cynthia Shechter
Cynthia Shechter is a breast cancer and lymphedema rehabilitation specialist and the founder of ShechterCare, a practice rooted in the belief that healing begins with the person—not the diagnosis. Based in Emerson, New Jersey, Cynthia relocated her practice from midtown Manhattan in 2019 to better serve patients throughout Bergen County. With advanced training in post–breast cancer rehabilitation and lymphedema prevention and management, she is known for her holistic, individualized approach that empowers patients to live fully and confidently beyond treatment.
An occupational therapist by training, Cynthia holds a Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Clinical Sociology from Ithaca College. Her work spans direct patient care, education for medical professionals, and advocacy around survivorship and long-term quality of life. ShechterCare is dedicated to navigating the “gray areas” of recovery—supporting patients not just in managing lymphedema, but in learning how to live well alongside it.
Guided by her philosophy, “Raise Your Arms High, Live Without Limits,” Cynthia is deeply committed to mind-body-spirit healing. She is passionate about ensuring patients feel seen, supported, and informed, and she remains a trusted partner to both individuals and healthcare teams working toward comprehensive, compassionate cancer recovery.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the unwavering support and inspiration of my mother Susan, my father Allen, my patient Barbara, and the mentorship I received at Rutgers, all of whom shaped my purpose and dedication to my work.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are leading with compassion, prioritizing time with my family and my three dogs, and staying grounded and healthy through activities I love like the beach, hiking, and exercising.
