About Cynthia

Cynthia White serves as a Career Development Specialist for the Council for Professional Development in the field of early childhood. Her long career began with work involving teenagers and youth in the Department of Corrections, followed by five years with Catholic Charities supporting the homeless population. She then dedicated 35 years to Head Start, with her final 10 years there as director of disability services for the program in Hennepin County. White has received a national award for her contributions to social services and parent involvement with Head Start, which she accepted in New York, as well as state and local awards for disability services. She remains active in the early childhood field through her current role and has also served as a foster parent for 10 or 15 years while preparing to become an election judge. White encourages those entering early childhood education to follow their passion and pursue ongoing education to stay current and advance professionally.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell people going into the field go into it because that's what you want to do and that's what your passion is. For early childhood then you definitely should do it. And once you start you should get as much education as you can so that you enable yourself to keep up with what's going on and also to make money.
