About Dacia

Dacia Moore serves as athletic director and special needs teacher in Chesnee, South Carolina. With 25 years in education and 13 years as athletic director, her main focus is teaching children with special needs and helping them grow through the learning process. She earned her bachelor's degree in learning disabilities in 2001 and her master's degree in curriculum and instruction in 2010. Moore is a doctoral candidate finishing her degree in educational leadership in about five weeks. She belongs to the National Society of Leadership and Success and South Carolina Exceptional Educators. Among her honors are 25 years of perfect attendance along with Cooperative Teacher of the Year and Exceptional Educator of the Year awards from the state of South Carolina last year. Moore attributes her success to hard work and being present for her students every day. She values faith, love, and determination, and advises others to never give up on their dreams while taking each day one at a time.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work and being present for my kids every day so I can see them grow and help them through the learning process.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received is to never give up on your dreams.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take each day one day at a time. Take the good days, the bad days, but keep pushing forward.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is dealing with student behaviors, handling each one on an individual basis, and making sure their needs are met, especially for students with special needs.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Faith, love, and determination are the values most important to me.
