About DaJanae
DaJanae Drake is a Professional Development Trainer at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. She has held this position for two years, during which she has created, developed, and facilitated professional development for the faculty and staff, often under a Title III grant. Her career path began in early childhood education, where she worked as a daycare assistant and lead teacher from high school through 2023. She later served as a writing support specialist at Tyler Junior College after gaining experience as a graduate assistant at a tutoring center. Drake earned a bachelor's degree in English with a specialization in writing and a minor in art focused on ceramics. She also obtained a master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. In her work, she prioritizes student success, retention, and fostering a growth mindset. Drake values perseverance and a growth mindset, understanding that failure marks the start of new attempts. She supports the Tyler Area Gays and the Trevor Project.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Persevere. Sometimes just getting your foot in is the hardest part. While it can be a little bit hard, and it might be your biggest battle, you're able to do it.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Education is always changing. Working with the grant, concern if it will continue. Making sure students really belong and feel connected, especially with social media influence. Opportunities everywhere in education as it is an amazing step for those who want and need it.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Having a growth mindset. Understanding that failure is just the beginning. Being headstrong and trying again in different ways to achieve success.
