Damaris Roper is a dedicated business development professional at SYNERGY HomeCare, where she specializes in senior home care, particularly for individuals living with dementia and Alzheimer's. Her passion for caregiving is deeply personal, rooted in her experience supporting her ex-mother-in-law through her battle with brain cancer. This experience highlighted for Damaris the critical need for compassionate, family-centered care, inspiring her to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare community.

Beginning her professional journey in early childhood education, Damaris transitioned into the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), working as a behavior technician and progressing to operations manager. She later co-founded and successfully ran an ABA clinic in Virginia, supporting children with autism and their families. Her career trajectory demonstrates her remarkable resilience, adaptability, and commitment to serving others, as she consistently embraced opportunities that allowed her to grow and positively impact lives.

Now based in Florida, Damaris focuses on building relationships and providing guidance to families navigating home care options. In addition to her role at SYNERGY HomeCare, she is launching She Thrives, a group dedicated to empowering women in healthcare through support, education, and community. Through her work, Damaris exemplifies a faith-driven, compassionate approach to leadership, combining her expertise in business development with a deep commitment to service and personal growth.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith in God and my willingness to embrace opportunities, even when I don’t have all the answers. Each challenge—from stepping into new roles to starting fresh in Florida—has taught me humility, resilience, and the importance of personal growth. By developing my mindset, communication, and emotional intelligence, I’ve learned to step out of my comfort zone, show up authentically, and connect with others, knowing that real impact comes from courage, continuous learning, and using my experiences to help others.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering this field that it is open, welcoming, and full of opportunities—even if you don’t have prior experience. If you have a passion for helping seniors, there’s a place for you to learn, grow, and find your niche, whether that’s nursing, operations, or another area. Explore different paths, pursue what excites you, and dive in fully. Build connections early—join industry groups, attend networking events, and engage with others. Relationships are at the heart of this work, and everyone is there for the same purpose: providing the best care for seniors. Start where you are, learn your niche, and let your curiosity and dedication guide your growth.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As someone new to this field, one of my biggest challenges is building relationships in an industry where many connections and networks are already established. To overcome this, I focus on showing up authentically and demonstrating the quality and care my team provides. I emphasize that we invest deeply in our caregivers, maintain close communication with clients, and prioritize compassion over contracts or sales tactics. Even when it’s intimidating to enter new spaces or meet new people, I face those moments head-on, engage openly, and let my authentic self lead—because real growth comes from showing up consistently and building trust through genuine care.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me in both my work and personal life are faith, compassion, service, community, self-care, authenticity, and perseverance. They shape how I connect with others, approach challenges, and stay committed to making a positive impact every day.
