Her Story
About Dana
I've been in the fashion industry for over 30 years and started my own company 11 years ago as a fashion consultant and creative director. As a one-woman show, I handle sourcing, sales, consulting, launching independent brands, scaling them to market, merchandising, and brand and product development. My work comes from being a hard worker since a young age, with mentors from the workplace shaping my path.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Dana
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having a strong intuition about my creative and strategic balance, being confident, keeping my head down, not looking at what others are doing, staying focused on building brands and creating partnerships and community. My mentors, especially incredible female mentors from a young age, have also been key.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is not to take it personally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women to ask for help and not think they can do everything on their own. There's always something to learn no matter what stage of your career. We are not to compete, but to complement each other.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is running my own brand by myself for the last 10 years and being responsible for the success of other people's outcomes. Opportunities come from understanding that it genuinely takes a village and not trying to do everything by yourself.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
People first, community, and inspiring others are most important. My whole motto is Better Together, and I surround myself with others who believe that.
