Ten minutes with Dana
01What do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, just to be quite honest, my relationship with God. I feel like I cover everything in prayer. I try not to overreact. I want to be the hands and feet of Jesus and be calm and be that safe place. That doesn't always mean that sometimes the news that I deliver is great, sometimes it's not. But I don't want to... I want to put more love in the world than I'm taking out of it. I want people, whenever they've had those interactions with me, not to think, oh, she's the worst. I want them to feel like I've kind of breathed a little light into them, and I don't want to be a depleter. I want to be able to shine a little light on someone and just kind of help them feel better about their place in the world.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The main thing that I think, if I were to look back, is just encourage other women who don't accept no as an answer. Help encourage the other women around you. It's not competition. This is a field where it's not about competition, it's about raising and lifting up. Sometimes you really need to be able to have someone that you can talk to in those moments when you're so frustrated. I know within the HR, everybody comes to you for everything. You're the solver of problems, you're the hearer of woes. Who do we go to? You often have to have a good network base to where you can call someone and be like, okay, I've really had it today. This is sucking the life out of me. And just be able to be honest with someone in a gut-level way, and know that they're not going to use that against you. So, you want to make sure you're a safe place for someone as well. I feel like it's so vital, push those other women up, pull them up, and just encourage. We accomplish so much together whenever you realize that it's not about only you looking good, it's about all of us looking good. Just adjust those other crowns. You appreciate it when somebody is willing to adjust yours. I think that too often in business world, especially, it's about who can make the loudest noise. Look at me, look at me. I think that we all have to cheer for each other, and it's vital. Find that community willing to cheer for you.
