Her Interview

Ten minutes with Danelle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success as a general manager to consistency, strong leadership, and never being afraid to learn. I try to come into work every day with the mindset that there is always something I can improve—whether it’s the way I lead my team, manage inventory, grow sales, or serve our guests.

I also give a lot of credit to my team. I believe a successful manager is only as strong as the people around them, so I’ve worked hard to build a team that feels supported, appreciated, and motivated to succeed.

Most importantly, I listen—to my employees, my customers, and my community. Managing a fuel station is about much more than selling fuel and products. We see many of the same people every day, and you have an opportunity to build genuine relationships with them. I believe taking care of people, holding myself accountable, and always looking for ways to grow are what have contributed most to my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You either win, or you learn!

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't wait until you feel completely ready to take the next step. Believe in what you've already accomplished, remain willing to learn, and when you have the opportunity to lead, help another woman recognize her potential too.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges of being a general manager is learning how to balance the needs of the business with the needs of your employees and customers. Every day can bring something different—staffing challenges, inventory issues, unexpected maintenance problems, customer concerns, or changes in sales.

I've learned that I can't always control what happens during the day, but I can control how I respond to it. I try to stay calm, prioritize what needs immediate attention, and make sure my team feels supported while still keeping the store running efficiently.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value honesty, integrity, and accountability in both my professional and personal life. I believe in being transparent, taking responsibility for my actions, and consistently doing what is right.
