About Danelly

Danelly Rodriguez is a Research Analyst at Independent Health, where she conducts population health analytics. With eight years of experience in her field, she transitioned from academic research to corporate work after earning a bachelor's degree in psychology and a Master's of Epidemiology from the University at Buffalo. During her academic career, Rodriguez won the competitive RISE Scholarship, which supported her full-time studies and research, and later received a competitive grant that funded her master's degree. She produced four first-author publications, including work on early signs of dementia in underserved Black and Hispanic populations in the Bronx and environmental exposures affecting children's cognitive outcomes in Uruguay. Her areas of expertise include epidemiological methods, scientific writing, study design, population health analytics, and social determinants of health. Rodriguez is a member of Latinas in Tech and attributes her success to her passion for serving underserved communities. She values collaboration, respect, innovation, and adaptability in her work, along with personal growth, compassion, and security. She advises young women entering the field to dream big but start small, recognizing that every accomplishment is a step forward despite challenges like the shift from structured academia to unstructured corporate environments.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Danelly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to passion and serving underserved communities. That's where my passion lies, even though where I work right now I'm not serving the communities that I would like to.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Dream big but start small. You can have this vision of yourself as what you want to be but it takes time and there will be failure along the way but failure only makes you grow. Every little accomplishment whether big small or medium is an accomplishment and a step ahead.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is transitioning from the structure of academia to corporate where research questions or business problems are very vague with lots of pivoting and no direct linear path. I'm used to making an observation, having a research question, coming up with methodology and executing it but in corporate it's unstructured.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

At work: collaboration, respect, being innovative and open to exploring new ideas and adapting to change. Personally: growth through learning and improving, compassion, and security by creating a safe stable environment for myself and relationships.
